I might potentially make seperate apps for video and image viewers in the future, but support for new or less popular formats is unlikely due to reliance on built-in decoders.

Just as @asklow said, I would have to use the build-in decoders from Android to remain small in size, which may or may not support formats you like depending on the system you use.

Your system will likely already implement common formats (eg. mp3), and may have extra support for less popular formats depending on the vendor. New formats however may be unsupported.

as for a small sound/music player, i personally use Dialog Music Player which does the job very competently: https://github.com/VishnuSanal/DialogMusicPlayer/releases
