I agree that `$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/{appName}/logs` isn't ideal. I would prefer `${XDG_STATE_HOME}/{appName}/logs` or `${XDG_CACHE_HOME}/{appName}/logs`. "But I follow the Electron/Chromium convention. So, even if another path is chosen, you'll still have a dozen cache files and other Chromium garbage inside `~/.config/{appName}`, so it's imposible ot keep it clear. As for `/var/log`, it's for system-wide logs only, not for GUI user apps. There's also a systemd journal, but I don't think anyone needs this feature.
@megahertz fair enough. I guess most of what I manage is system wide so thus `/var/log`. Now that I look around a bit more I do see more electron apps logging to .config, though I'm not sure which came first here, your package, or that decision. I'll assume benefit of the doubt that I'm wrong and that this behavior predates electron-log, and (even if it did not) accept it as a current non conforming standard. Thank you for the consideration!
When developing the first version, I spent some time considering the location. And this approach was already popular at that time.
Well, thanks for humoring an opinionated graybeard in the making (lord help me!). I appreciate any tool which increases the logging in applications I need to troubleshoot. You're Ace!
