browsernotes's Introduction

BrowserNotes 2.0

Simple, minimal and small script to save your passwords or notes AES-encrypted in your web browser or device.

BrowserNotes2 is able to store multiple notes inside one same file, device or bookmark. Also, encryption is now applied once to the file (before, title and content were encrypted separately, making script slower without giving any security improvement)

A portable version of BrowserFiles can be found here, so that a single file contains everything necessary to run correctly. Also, it is designed to be used without internet connection, including all the necessary libraries.

Where to save your document

You can save your note into:

  1. WebStorage: Save your encrypted note into your browser clicking "Save to WebStorage".
  2. File: You can also save your notes in your device in a JSON based file, which stores your note encrypted.
  3. URL: Not recommended. Generates a URL to save your note in your bookmarks. It is not reccomended because browsers can't handle URLs with unlimited chars. Also, you need to re-bookmark your note every time you edit it.

Also included

  • Multi-language: Translated into English (default) and Spanish. More languages can be easily added, just editing a JSON inside lang.js. Your preferred language will be saved across sessions.

browsernotes's Issues

Add multinote support

Coming from #1

Since new file structure is done, script needs to support multiple notes within same file:

Interface:

  • Dropdown to select note to show, also with an option to add new note.
  • Menu option to delete current note.

Add Dark mode

Add a menu option to change UI from light to dark mode and vice versa.

Multiple notes within same file

Status: Done

  • Change structure of JSON files to allow saving multiles notes inside them. Affects both file-based saving and WebStorage.

  • Add to JSON file an attribute that indicates its version, for compatibility reasons, to let the script know which version of the reader should use.

  • To simplify everything and increase performance in files with too many notes or in slow devices, also modify in this version the reader so that it encrypts the complete JSON file, instead of the title and content separately.

  • After these modifications, the URL-based saving must only save a single parameter, the JSON-encrypted file converted to Base64.

Change git code structure

Status: Done

BrowserNotes is designed to be portable, so that a single file contains everything necessary to run correctly. Also, it is designed to be used without internet connection, including all the necessary libraries.

For convenience when developing, extract all these resources to their respective external folders. In releases, file will still be portable and will keep all the aforementioned characteristics.
