This cookbook is not yet published on opscode site, though i think it is
safe to say it is not in development stage anymore for what it does (I have
been using it for prod).

There are only few non-critical components like authentication, mx4j and
auto seed discovery by cluster name missing at the moment (work in
progress), but other than that it looks ready for site upload.

until published you can put this in your Berksfile to override the default:

cookbook 'cassandra', git: 'git://github.com/michaelklishin/cassandra-chef-cookbook.git', tag: 'v2.7.0'

Not bad so far.

A few key items I had to dig for in the CB

node.default[:cassandra][:package_name]='dsc12'
node.default[:cassandra][:version]='1.2.18'
node.default[:cassandra][:release]='1'

That was just to get the RPM to install. Now it seems it's not even using
the generated config file. Looks like the rpm uses alternatives on centos.
So the cassandra.yaml file is in /etc/cassandra/conf with conf being a
soft link to /etc/alternative/cassandra.

Look more tomorrow.....

@acqant please create a separate issue for the CentOS/RPM config path problem.

@michaelklishin How about renaming cookbook to 'cassandracluster' or something else? Chef Super Market already have cookbook named - cassandra.

michaelklishin avatar michaelklishin commented on May 31, 2024

@vkhatri cassandracluster is not a great name. Maybe cassandra-and-dse can work, although I'd need to check with someone from DataStax.

Would be good to see this correctly versioned and uploaded to chef supermarket.

I'm leaning to use cassandra-ng as the name. Not great but still better than cassandra-and-dse, cassandra-dse or cassandra2 (which may mislead people when Cassandra 3.0 is out).

Any other ideas?

I'd be in favor of datastax-cassandra or cassandra-datastax

michaelklishin avatar michaelklishin commented on May 31, 2024

cassandra-datastax works for me.
