Agree, but before we go into specifics of the implementation we need to consider these requirements:
- Close to linear scale with the ability to support thousands of CCUs and millions of players in the database.
- Start small and scale up and down in order to support Indie Developers with limited budget.
The concurrency level is something that we might need to consider on a broader scope outside of DocumentDB depending on if we can architect, implement and validate that DocumentDB can handle these kind of ingest requirements or not.

I've got an initial PR (#82) that shows targeting .NET and .NET Core, and has a DocumentDB implementation as an example. While coding it there were a few things that came to mind for future verification, so I thought I should capture them :-)

I think this issue is no longer relevant, since we are exploring other options for leaderboard right now using SQL and/or Redis. I'll close this issue
