On System Versioning there was not much bug reports from non-developers, but it is comparable to other components in Jira. Last 30 days each component received from 2 to 6 non-dev reports, mostly 4. System Versioning received 2 bug reports, but total of 8 in last 60 days.

So I would say the usage of System Versioning in MariaDB is not very low but it can be higher.
Especially in front of MySQL that doesn't have such feature. This is an advantage that can be used to attract some users from MySQL but it should be presented well to mass media. Currently I didn't found such presentations in Google. All the articles I've seen that enlighten differences between MySQL and MariaDB don't mention System Versioning. That would be good to see some article that stresses on System Versioning in MariaDB and maybe even tells about some advantages from Microsoft SQL temporal tables.

  • timestamp precision;
  • transactional versioning;
  • convenient syntax;
  • performance? it should be compared.

I have some note on System Versioning activity. There was not much bug reports, but it is roughly comparable to other components in Jira. Last 60 days each component received from 4 to 10 user reports. System Versioning received 8 bug reports. Fair to say that it is only 3 users who reported these 8 bugs. While other components have different users per each bug. So I'd say the feature is less known and less mature, but it does have its potential.

For example on Stack Overflow there are 1600 questions on System Versioning. On replication there are about 3700 questions. So this examination may tell that System Versioning is half as popular as Replication.

In front of MySQL System Versioning can be an advantage to entice some users but it should be presented well to mass media. Currently I didn't found such presentations in Google. All the articles I've seen about MySQL versus MariaDB don't mention System Versioning.
