I've actually followed this discussion and have come to the conclusion that the main source of dubiousness is Sebastiano Vigna. A rebuttal of many of the points brought forth in his self-proclaimed "crusade" against PCG can be found in discussions on Melissa O'Neill's blog, Hacker News, and David Lemire's blog. I'll close this ticket, there are certainly much more important topics to work on within Enoki.

Thanks for that. Looks like I missed some parts of the discussion. For anyone else reading, here's a link to the relevant post in Melissa O'Neill's blog: http://www.pcg-random.org/posts/on-vignas-pcg-critique.html. I don't think I've found the relevant blog post by Daniel Lemire yet - at least the only relevant post I've found does not seem to give any rebuttal.

I'm more confident in using PCG now, which I'm glad of since the streams feature is very useful in parallel workloads and is not adequately provided for in, for example, xoroshiro, which only has jump functions.

It's a bit late, but for anyone wondering, I believe the blog post by Daniel Lemire referenced above was this one, and the comments made by Vigna in it
