If I'm not wrong, you need to explicitly specify the plugin search in the plugins object because (I think) the default plugins are overwritten:

site_name: My Docs
theme:
  name: readthedocs

plugins:
  - include-markdown
  - search

That works for me, the search bar reappears, could you confirm if it works for you as well?

Yes, that does it thanks!

You may want to mention it in the README.md, since the search plugin is implicitly enabled by default in most themes.

Every plugin has to mention this? I think that is a problem with documentation or implementation of Mkdocs, or the theme itself.

My bad, it is there at the top of the plugins documentation. Sorry for the bother.
