Well, normally we assume that the default repos have high availability. But yes it seems freedesktop sometimes craps out. If you know a more reliable (and uptodate) mirror for fribidi, do tell.
But in general, I think it would be hard to do automatic selection of mirror URLs, unless git has native functionality for this (but I'm not aware of any).

Hmm ok, well it did come around after about 15 mins...
I personally don't know of any mirrors, wasn't sure if you did, but still might be nice to consider as you move forward on the project just in case it continues, but hey Plan B is still good to have in the back pocket just in case... :)
