Instead of commenting this out, you should listen on the ImapConnection instance's error event and handle this yourself:

var ImapConnection = require('./imap').ImapConnection, util = require('util'),
    imap = new ImapConnection({
      username: '[email protected]',
      password: 'mygmailpassword',
      host: 'imap.gmail.com',
      port: 993,
      secure: true
    });
imap.on('error', function(err) {
  // uh oh!
});
imap.connect(function() {
  // do stuff here
});

Perfect - thanks for the insight. Are there any other events that I should listen on in order to prevent my app from crashing?

Generally in node, it's only the 'error' event that must be listened for. If there is no 'error' handler, the default action is to exit the process with a stack trace. It's a special event.

About the only other "event" you might want to listen on outside of this module is the 'uncaughtException' event, which is an event emitted by the process object: process.on('uncaughtException', function(err) { });

You can see what other events are emitted by an ImapConnection instance in the README.
