The other user I mentioned used Mumble 1.2.4 under Windows 7.

It is possible the client was busy writing silence. The way the recorder works is that if in multi-channel-recording a new users joins the channel generally or someone speaks up after long silence Mumble has to write all the missing silence which - depending on length and codec - might take quite a while. We obviously don't want Mumble to totally hang in that situation.

If I'm right with my assumption we should be able to fix this for 1.2.5. We are currently testing a branch which should resolve it. I'll follow up on this issue once its available in snapshots.

Thanks for reporting and sorry for the slow response. Must have overlooked this on the old tracker.

If the diagnosis was correct this issue should be solved with ed424af and later. If this persists in the upcoming snapshot please reopen.

Still having this problem on Debian Wheezy with 1.2.7. It stops recording at about 43 minutes and creates a very big 27 GB wav file of the other person I am talking to.

I record in wav multichannel and 27 GB is the rest of the free disk space I had.
The recording of my own voice saves a wav file with ~140 MB which has the reasonable size and records everything until the 27 GB files filled up the harddrive.
During that time mumble does not show an error message but just keeps running and shows the recording window. Stopping the record does not work and I need to kill mumble. The process itself is using 100 % CPU at the time.
The 27 GB wav file is empty.

Could you try with a more recent snapshot version? 1.2.7 is basically 1.2.4 with security fixes as we changed our versioning scheme (http://blog.mumble.info/version-numbering-change/) and doesn't contain the fix linked above.

I'm not sure if they are compatible but we offer a PPA for Ubuntu that has the snapshots: https://launchpad.net/~mumble/+archive/ubuntu/snapshot

Can't say I really understand why you would get such a huge output file if the recording is only so short though. If it isn't fixed with the newer version the following information would be helpful:

  • Does this reproduce every time you try?
  • Does this only happen with wav output format?

I can reproduce it with 1.3.0425g6f2552d. It is reproducable though it does not appear exactly after a couple of minutes. But on every record basically (not if it is a very short one though)
It also happens with flac output format
