Thanks for the inquiry!

  1. Yes, transfers are incremental and rsync'd. I'm planning to write up a technical document with the algorithm in the near future. However, I definitely would not think of this as a backup system - it's a synchronization system (think something like Dropbox, but without storage outside your control, Syncthing, but with simpler "installation" and no configuration). If you're looking to do backups, especially with things like permission preservation, you'd be much better off using something else, e.g. rdiff-backup.
  2. There's no plan to support "dumb" storage systems, only systems where an program can be executed remotely to perform efficient synchronization. E.g., Mutagen would work to synchronize to an EC2 instance with a volume mounted, but not S3 or Glacier. But again, it sounds like you want something better oriented towards backups.
  3. The biggest feature I'm working on is a GUI. Probably only supporting macOS and Windows to start with, but ideally Linux shortly thereafter. Also, LOADS of tests!
