Please don't mind the poor font but I think something like this would look cool for a homepage.

Probably needs something like a bordeaux red border-bottom. That colour would perfectly match the whole feeling of your site. Consider using it for subtle details. ;-)

I'm sure you can make the real deal look more like a cool, brand new app and less like Wikipedia. :p

Yes, I was thinking of doing something along those lines. I like the top block. What color codes did you use for that?

Uhm, I did that with a 7% covering white to black gradient in Gimp. It probably goes from #fcfcfc to #f3f3f3 or something along those lines.
