As you noted, you can convert most instrument data into raster or vectors that can be display in the 2D or 3D view. Another option is providing links to non-mapping instrument products inside the GeoJSON of an instrument observation location. See the discussion about this on the Panels Tab:

You can display images, 3D models, DZI tiled images, and panoramas.
