preventDefault() is usually intended to prevent the browser's default behaviour. Although WebWorldWind could(should?) check whether the event was cancelled before processing it, wouldn't stopPropagation() be more appropriate in this case? Any thoughts?

Forget about my suggestion. We do skip cancelled events for other actions so we should as well here for consistency in my opinion.

@jaybarra I'm not sure if this issue is still relevant to you. Nevertheless, we'll incorporate the underlying use case - suppressing the default mouse wheel response - in our ongoing work on navigation.
