configService.get<T> returns string about config

<..> is just a type argument that instructs the TS compiler what type you expect to receive. It doesn't perform parsing/casting/validation, none of that (and there's no way to accomplish that in TypeScript).

Setting a type to a function leads to think this type is returned, which is not. It's best in this case to define get as always returning a string (at least in the doc ?). It's currently completely misleading.
As for "casting" techniques, this is debatable.

It does not always return a string. It depends on what you are retrieving (and your config).
