The original line was missing some parentheses:

os.system("cat %s > %s" % nest_filename, user_filename)

should be

os.system("cat %s > %s" % (nest_filename, user_filename))

Laurent's fix also changed > to >>, which I don't think was necessary to solve the problem but is probably a useful modification.

Really, we should be more sophisticated about this, returning suitable error messages if a file is read-only, etc (probably if the user tries to write to a non-writable file we should not delete the temporary file and then tell the user where the temporary file is, so that he can attempt to recover the data).
