I figured it out. For future reference if anyone stumbles upon the same thing.
First of all, hello people from the future.
Second, tabulator maintains its own updates which clash with react. Wrap tabulator into its own component and have that component implement shouldComponentUpdate method and return false - if you want to have tabulator maintain control over data that it was handed to.
