We currently rely on unix sockets, which isn't fully portable, we should also have support for named pipes on Windows.
Our current logging is a bit of a mess, and really verbose. We should have leveled logging, like logrus or something else.
If we start the application and point it to a folder with files that already exist, it won't actually do anything. We should at least have an option for synchronizing state with what files already exist in the remote storage.
When attempting to use the CLI with the Debian package, I'm getting the following error:
bash FATA[2018-04-06T22:48:12Z] dial unix /tmp/backer.sock: connect: permission denied
I think we need to change the permissions so that anyone can read/write the socket.
If we have multiple backends, we shouldn't checksum the file multiple times. Instead, we should do it once and just wait for the results.
We're currently opening the socket incorrectly, and that means it's not getting closed if the application crashes. We should modify the socket logic so that we can defer the deletion when the main loop stops.
Perhaps something like, last modified/synced time, size, etc.
The default Debian install seems to have incorrect permissions. The config folder is owned by a numeric user, which usually means something went wrong.
If you modify a file with vim, backer fails because the file that it sees is actually just the buffer and not the file itself. So we probably need some filtering to avoid watching temporary files.
When shutting down the daemon, we get the following error:
2018/04/05 15:28:14 rpc.Serve: accept:accept unix /tmp/backer.sock: use of closed network connection
We probably need to stop listening, before closing the socket.
We should be able to specify inclusion/exclusion patterns for each registered root.
