I'm afraid we can't do that as this would remove a lot of convenience from the current setup. I also would not recommend using the eunit macros.

everybody who needs to have it could just add to own Makefile:
TEST_ERLC_OPTS += +'{parse_transform, eunit_autoexport}'
include erlang.mk
this will not complicate any setup more than exporting something twice by custom 'default'.
I think that using it that way is not common case. This parse transform was made for using it by EUnit with header file. Same about macros, lots of people using EUnit, sometimes together with proper and common_test as well.
I know that you prefer CommonTest but still erlang.mk should not force any solutions... rather have unobtrusive defaults.

Well sure but there's no support for eunit at this point. I'm hoping someone writes a plugin for the new erlang.mk at some point and then we can see how to make both cooperate.
