Thanks for your kind feedback! It's sad that FF has made it so difficult for addons to fiddle with the UI. BTW, the biggest motivator for keeping the project up is to see people using it. So, if you enjoy it, tell a friend :)

In the new releases, there's an Always display close button switch. :)

Note that the newest release requires FF >= 67 which is currently only available in Nightly.

In the meantime, you can set this in the Custom CSS field:

.tabbrowser-tab .tab-close-button {
    /* -moz-box is not accepted */
    display: -webkit-box !important;
}

You should know that your work has made me a very happy man. I had been running a very old build of Firefox (which was barely compatible with today's CSS standards) just so I could run Tab Mix Plus. Now I'm up to date and loving it. Thanks!
