To me it looks like ./ is prevented here:

baseURL: runtimeConfig.app.baseURL.startsWith('./')
? runtimeConfig.app.baseURL.slice(1)
: runtimeConfig.app.baseURL,

baseURL: "." does something – it changes all references to href="_nuxt/..." – breaking all but the toplevel index.html page. A subpage, e.g. "mypage/otherpage/index.html" I believe should point at href="../../_nuxt/...", so I think I'm missing some other configuration here.

I tried to roll with baseURL: "." to at least get things going for the main page.

  1. There are warnings logged to the console that this is an invalid baseURL, so I'm again not sure what the correct approach to make relative builds is.
  2. When deploying to an actual server in a subdirectory, the router seems to still assume absolute paths, so wherever I put the result besides a root URL, I always get "page not found: ".
