Thanks for the feedback, I can see the utility as I already do this in Who's On First.
Some considerations:
- Some countries have more than 1 official national language. Belgium, Switzerland, and Canda all come immediately to mind. Which one would be listed first in a list, or singularly if we only include 1?
- Some countries have 1 or more unofficial (or regional) languages. Spain comes to mind.
- Should we include
name_{official}
properties for a given country when that language isn't already part of the include set of default name translations?

Thanks for your quick reply.

I personally would include all of them and simply order them alphabetically. Ordering by popularity might feel neat, but I don't think this adds much of a value especially because of the multiple definitions of "popularity".

This is a cool idea. Do you already have properties/fields that only exist for certain countries?
Edit: I recently put together a simple wikidata query to get the official national languages per country code. Not sure if this is of any value for you https://gist.github.com/Robbendebiene/8b623625f2de111676bc170d56758833

It is also possible that in some provinces the official language is different from that of the rest of the countries, at the ne_10_admin_1_states_provinces level.
For example, in Italy in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol - BZ) the official language is German, because they are territories of German language and culture acquired in the First World War.
