As an update to (4) in the list above, the ability to move about the map is a bug related to issue #15, and is only valid on the initial opening of the app. Once the player menu has been closed with tab this option is no longer available.

Since development for playMode=False is on-going for other issues (#44). I'm going to close this issue for now. We should move this discussion to design documentation for now.
