Hi @vikdenic. The "mobile3.sandbox.edx.org" server is an internal server we use for testing and you won't have access to it. It's only mentioned in the code as an example in a test. I'm sorry to say that our actual mobile api is also currently inaccessible to third parties. It's still very new and we're not ready to commit to supporting it (hence the v0.5 in the URL).

If you don't mind, would you tell me a bit more about your app? We're curious how people want to use edX so we can build things that will be useful to our community. If edX put out an iOS library for people like you (separate from our full app) what would you want to be in it?

Akiva,

First off thank you for the quick response. The app I want to make will
allow user's to track courses they are taking, and find others who are in
the same course to chat with.

So to answer your question, I would want edX's iOS library to be able to
allow developers to retrieve course data for certain users.

Thanks again,

Akiva,

Is there a general API that simply provides course information?

I read the following on edX's Github (here
https://github.com/edx/edx-platform/wiki/RESTful-course-and-xblock-API):

To retrieve course names, identities (urls), enrollment dates, and

marketing information, in the short run we will make these wide open
without requiring even authentication.

This would be awesome!

Thanks,

I'm not sure of the exact status of the information there, but I believe it's discussing general course information not per user course information. So even with that you would be able to get a list of all available courses, but not a list of courses an individual is enrolled in.

@vikdenic I'm going to close this issue since it's not really about our ios app. If this is something that's important for you, I'd encourage you to follow up on our backend which is the edx-platform repo and the associated edx-code mailing list ([email protected]).
