That's an interesting thought. Let me think a bit how to organize that in a better way.

I believe the current page mess. If you do not have other ideas in mind, I can try to create more cool leyout

Did wireframe a few pages on Gomockingbird.
I'm using the tyr version, so I can not save the project, but only an image.
A traditional menu at the top is a good idea to take the other pages of the site.
To make it easier to see the new games, I believe that would be ideal to keep them in the index; additionally serve as a preview for the games that the site list. Maybe can be added an option to "show more" below the list.
Besides this list, there may be a simple text presenting the site. In the future, we can add translation text and of an option exchange.
This is the second and most important tab.
It is similar to the current list, adding more efficiently filtering options and little organizations. The list of games can be updated by AJAX on every update filters, as is currently done.
Instead of confusing texts, I suggest use the TAG. This will facilitate the search and reading.
I suggest changing the arrow for something easier to know what it is. Maybe a + or something.
I suggest including the link to Ohloh, so you do not need to include the language which the game is written, clearing the list.
It will be interesting to have an text of overview of the game, no need to go to other pages. However, this can be annoying to do and delay updates.
Clicking on an image will open a modal.
The fourth tab is for contacts. In order to encourage more contact with users, I suggest implementing a direct message sending.
Beside only have a few informational texts or something.
The third tab do not know how you can be like the second. The fifth tab will redirect to here (oh, really?)
I recommend we use the Foundation. I have experience with it and meets all necessiades project.

Ok, I really don't like the idea of making it that complicated. I really love it being a simple list, simplicity of search and ability to skim whole list in one go appeals to me too much.
There are a couple ideas I like though. Having side menu with filters is a good one. Changing arrow... yeah, maybe, though I thought it's pretty obvious what it is. Modal with an image inside would be nice as well.
Having a link to Ohloh instead of having a language immediately? Doesn't make any sense to me: 1) not every game has a good presentation on Ohloh (in other case this catalog would be pointless), 2) the whole idea is to give quick overview of what's in here.
What's TAG?
Text overview is an interesting idea, I'm thinking if that could be fetched from Wikipedia...

It may be possible to simplify my suggestion, joining the index with the list of games, and put an option to sort by order added, and keep the text at the top of the list. It would be much like the current one.
But do not think that's good, because the text at the top would "pollute" - after reading it once, will not want to read it again. Will occupy and pollute a space that used to list the games.
I believe that adding another page will not complicate. This is something we need to think.
Some users may be confused the arrow with ball of items on topics. So it would be better to choose another icon.
By the way, instead of the name "official site", "wikipedia"... Could be used icons. Would look better.
TAG will tell the genre of the game (strategy, simulation, arcade), the state of development (design, playable), state of the team (abandoned, development). Each type of TAG would the color itself.
Could be used this feature of Foundation: http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/labels.html
Would be exactly what already exists, but using this feature, standardizing and standardized to facilitate search. Each TAG have their ID.
Not all games have a text in Wikipedia, as FreeRCT. But they are few. It is, I believe will have no problems.
Maybe I'm over complicating for something simple, but ... The result would be interesting =P

We don't have to change the layout of the site. Tools can be added as another type of "clone" (remake
, clone
, the proposed port
#533, and now tool
)
We could add a new filter to filter out tools by default. But once tools are shown, they'll just show up in the same big list.
Other questions:
- What types of tools will there be, and what name(s) do we use? Tool? Modding? Resource? Let's come up with a list.
- Do we need a different schema? What different fields would it have? For tools maybe we can include tags for what it can edit, like levels, (extract) assets, debug/cheats... For websites that document file formats, maybe we don't need them to have an open source license.
