I was able to just completely remove ~/workspace, and re-install from scratch.
it seems whenever there is (rarely) a problem with updating, this approach works ;)

The building problem you had was due to a package 'btr-ros-pkg/btr_bfly_camera' which can be used as a wrapper for PointGrey drivers. We used it as a first option for PointGrey support, but it is not used any more. You probably had this package previously installed in your workspace.
The package we advise to use for PointGrey cameras is 'pointgrey_camera_driver'. Anyway, PointGrey drivers do not seem to work for Ubuntu 13.04.
