Along these lines of OSF as file storage, to me it seems like there's pretty much unlimited storage space. Would I be abusing OSF if I store multiple TBs of data long term across several projects as a long term backup? This seems quite possible to do with this tool, but it seems too good to be true to get all that storage space for free.

See #66 for osfclient related ideas. On the OSF side there is a limit of 5GB per file and beyond that I think the current policy is "please get in touch if you want to pour TBs of data into OSF".
For external storages (say your dropbox) it might actually work out that there is no limit beyond what ever dropdox does. This could work because there are ways to directly fetch a file from $dropbox instead of having to transfer all the bytes through OSF. So it doesn't cost extra traffic.
