Well, I'm not sure I understand the issue exactly. You description misses at least quotes for literal strings you see on the screen (vs unqouted noun groups which denote some notions). Please edit to make it clearer. But even then it's not enough , because, well, I played with creating shortcuts and widgets before, I did that now, and I don't see issues with label display below shortcut/widget icon like you describe. (My production usage is "All labels" shortcut in ADW Lancher's "Drawer" area, on Samsung Galaxy S2/Android 2.3.5).

So, please provide step by step instructions on how to reproduce this issue (with "what I get/what I expect" info). Thanks.

Ah, and btw, what launcher do you use - issues with displaying labels underneath icons on home screen would rather be attributed to it (again, I'm using ADW Launcher from F-Droid).

  • create label "sys", asssign "sys" to a few apps
  • ... repeat with a few labels like that, I have 6 shortcut labels on my home screen
  • create shortcut on home screen for "sys" and the others
    ... everything correct
  • reboot
... text under widget says "Apps Label" instead of expected "sys"

Using builtin launcher which has 2 Themes, problem remains with both. Never had problems with the launcher and original Apps2Org never did have this issue and was configured almost exactly the same way.

Possibly it needs some kind of redisplay after SD card becomes available? it seems like the SD card takes a long time before it is available on my system.

With those steps, cannot reproduce on on Samsung Galaxy S2/2.3.5 and HDMI Stick RK3066/4.1.1 .

What is the device that you use? I suspect that "builtin launcher" is the culprit.

original Apps2Org never did have this issue

I guess you mean original Apps Organizer. Well, I didn't touch its code that much in it, definitely didn't touch icon/label related stuff. Well, I'll try to review my code changes and do more tests still.

I'm not sure how SD card may be related, do you have any hints? Apps2Org should not keep any stuff on SD card, label info is located in sqlite DB, and kept in /data. And again, redisplay would be handled by launcher - on my devices, it also takes eye-noticeable time to scan SD card, and after there's corresponding notification in title bar, I see that home screen "flickers", i.e. redrawn.

It is an ageold Huawei Ideos X3. The launcher did not have any issues so far with labels, also the string "Apps Label" seems to come from AppsOrganizer?

Is it possible that launcher asks AppsOrganizer for its text label before AppsOrganizer runs long enough to have read and evaluated its configuration files?

The only hint at redisplay after SD-init was that once it did work after reboot but never again. But might have been something different timing dependent.

I have had recently the issue that the external SD card had very little storage left. Fixed that, created another shortcut and rebooted, still the same problem.

Sorry, didn't have time to do more testing so far. I think the best way to investigate it further is still try ADW Launcher on your side - shouldn't be too hard, you can install it via F-Droid, try, and uninstall like any other app.

It works with ADW Launcher. The really odd thing, now it also works in huawei launcher - but only for shortcuts that are newly created. I have tried that many times before without success.

Even worse, after uninstalling ADW it displays the old error again.

The workaround for this kind of problem: whenever you change the contents (apps) of a folder which is already on the homescreen, you have to add it to home ("Add to home") from inside of Apps2Org again, otherwise the app list in the widget won't change.
