We have created an issue in Pivotal Tracker to manage this. Unfortunately, the Pivotal Tracker project is private so you may be unable to view the contents of the story.

The labels on this github issue will be updated when the story is started.

Sorry that this has been overlooked for so long.

This might sound controversial, but I would recommend deploying this without the haproxy instances. The AMQP clients can either leverage connection recovery via the client library - most support this. Alternatively, and this is something that I've had most success with, let the apps crash and connect to an arbitrary RabbitMQ node on startup.

There are a couple of reasons why haproxy is not something that I recommend:

  • it makes the RabbitMQ deployment more complex to operate & troubleshoot when things go wrong
  • PROXY protocol support is not currently used - this was only added in RabbitMQ 3.7, which was only recently added to this BOSH release. Without PROXY support, the haproxy is half as useful (might not be the case for everyone, but it's what I keep coming across when needing to track down clients)
  • latency increases because there is an extra network hop
  • scaling the network requires 2x the capacity - 1 for haproxy, 1 for RabbitMQ
