Handled in a lightweight way by:
The approach is to parse the bibtex file in the client and search+replace for the [@authorYYYY]
and @authorYYYY
pandoc syntaxes.
If we wanted to render citations ahead of time, we could switch to using pandoc as our Markdown engine, but I'll leave things be for now.
