Sorted this, just passed in

include PublicActivity::Model
  tracked :owner => :user

from public_activity.

The solution you came up is the one we advise, @current_user does not exist when you define your models. By providing :user, you order PublicActivity to set the owner from the #user method on a instance your model.

Note that :owner => :user will assign owner of the activity from the #user method on the trackable object. if you meant to assign @current_user to the owner, there are two ways:

  • include PublicActivity::StoreController in your ApplicationController, then do tracked :owner => proc { |controller, model| controller.current_user }, assuming you have method #current_user on your controller.
  • @trackable_object.activity :owner => @current_user in your controller action

An example application using this gem is under development and will be out soon, where best practises will be shown.
