If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you're trying to change the password on a keystore. As the old password is not cached on the filesystem there is no way for puppet to know if the target keystore is actually the keystore with the old password.

So the two options are either

  • leaving the keystore alone and requiring manual intervention
  • or blowing away whatever file is currently in the path and laying down a new file.

The former sounds irritating, but the latter sounds dangerous in the event of mistargeted paths.

I'll leave this open for more input.

yes your understanding is right.

as far as i remember the first option is the current behaviour and i currently work around it by manually removing the current keystore.
maybe another option would be an additional purge or replace parameter to let the user enforce a specific behaviour.
