Index munging methods about pyjanitor

I started a bit but for some reason DataFrame does not seem to allow me to overwrite __getattribute__ (and I'm sure the code is not functional in other ways):

class IndexDataFrame(pd.DataFrame):
    def __getattribute__(self, name):
        print('here')
        if name.startswith('index_'):
            method_name = name.strip('index_')
            method_to_call = getattr(self.index, method_name)
            def caller(idx, *args, **kwargs):
                new_index = method_to_call(*args, **kwargs)
                if not isinstance(new_index, pd.Index):
                    raise AttributeError('Method must return an index')
                idx = new_index
                return self
            return caller
        else:
            # Default behaviour
            return pd.DataFrame.__getattribute__(self, name)
