Can you test the pure-python branch? It now passes all of its tests, and no longer requires the C binding. As such, logging works just fine, and its substantially easier to debug any problems.

Some of the exceptions have changed names, but the overall functionality has not changed at all, nor have any of the recipes, nor did any of the tests.

We're still writing even more tests for it, but I'd definitely give it a try in a staging environment first of course. At the very least, it no longer has other C lib and C binding bugs in it (they would occasionally leak function references, and in some cases seg-fault Python). And since its just Python, its substantially easier to see what is actually going on. We'll probably merge it into the master branch shortly.
