They are more or less unmaintained and the only useful thing they provide, custom commands via setup.py, is deprecated for a long time. Common alternatives for pure packages would be flit-core or hatchling (there also is uv, poetry, pdm etc) Anyone have any preferences? For the commands we can add a just file or something, if needed.
We'll try to get rid of setup.py first, and then try hatchling.
uv would be my suggestion.
You mean uv_build? That only supports pure Python packages.

oh, right, wrong repo, sorry :/ In theory yes, not sure it's worth pulling in a native/rust dependency for what mutagen needs.
