archive_write() opens a writable connection to an archive, it does not actually write any data, so the equivalent base function would be file() not write.csv().

The behavior you observe seems to be a race condition in closing the connection in saveRDS(), I see the same behavior with connections opened with file(), e.g.

for (i in 1:100) {
  saveRDS(mtcars, file("archive.file"))
}

Switching to explicitly closing the connection on each iteration should fix the warnings in both cases.

for (i in 1:100) {
  con <- file("archive.file")
  saveRDS(mtcars, con)
  close(con)
}

for (i in 1:100) {
  con <- archive::archive_write("archive.tar", "file")
  saveRDS(mtcars, con)
  close(con)
}

from archive.

That fixes it. Thanks!
