Heroku Buildpack: wkhtmltopdf

This is a Heroku buildpack for using wkhtmltopdf in your application.

It is designed to be used with heroku-buildpack-multi to combine it with the appropriate real buildpack for your app.

This is based on https://github.com/jayzes/heroku-buildpack-pngquant.

Versions

The following wkhtmltopdf versions are available:

Version 0.12.2.1 released on January 19, 2015

Version 0.12.1 released on June 26, 2014

This branch works with version 0.12.2.1

Stack

This is designed to be used on Cedar-14 Stack.

Usage

Add a .buildpacks file to the root of your repo that contains this buildpack URL and your real buildpack URL:

https://github.com/rafaelp/heroku-buildpack-wkhtmltopdf#0.12.2.1
https://github.com/heroku/heroku-buildpack-ruby

Then create an application using the multi buildpack:

$ heroku create --stack cedar-14 --buildpack https://github.com/ddollar/heroku-buildpack-multi

or configure an existing application:

$ heroku config:set BUILDPACK_URL=https://github.com/ddollar/heroku-buildpack-multi

Deploy your applicatio.

$ git push heroku master

Remember to clean your repository cache if you are updating the version of buildpack. To do that, run:

$ heroku plugins:install https://github.com/heroku/heroku-repo.git
$ heroku repo:purge_cache -a appname

You can verify that everything is properly installed by running the following command:

$ heroku run "wkhtmltopdf -V"

The output should be:

wkhtmltopdf 0.12.2.1 (with patched qt)

wkhtmltopdf download URL moved, fails to install.

The wkhtmltopdf binary fails to download/install because the URL is no longer valid. The buildpack fails to notice and should check the MD5SUM of the binary before attempting to install. But, more importantly, the buildpack needs to be updated with the correct URL: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/wkhtmltopdf/archive/0.12.1/wkhtmltox-0.12.1_linux-trusty-amd64.deb

deprecated multi-buildpack

Hi,

so the ddolar multi-buildpack seems to be no longer supported, but I also did not have much luck with the built-in multi support so far. What are you using currently?

use updated URL for wkhtmltopdf downloads

Hello,

wkhtmltopdf has moved the downloads provider from SourceForge to gna.org. As mentioned in the linked message, all earlier downloads have been removed from SourceForge and you are strongly advised to migrate to the new URLs. The following files in your repository will need to be updated:

• bin/compile

It is recommended to either subscribe to the mailing list or Twitter feed to receive updates on new releases and further changes.

wkhtmltopdf install on every deploy

This is great - thanks for this!

Just one question - it seems that wkhtmltopdf installs on every deploy - is this expected behaviour?
