Thanks for reporting that.

Could you supply OpenWrt versions and a sh -x trace, please? Just paste the trace in as a comment in

A code block

if you can.

Ta.

raphaelcohn avatar raphaelcohn commented on August 29, 2024

OK, got it. fatten, the tool used by shellfire to create the standalone executable has output some bash-style function syntax for a nested function. It may be a fatten bug, or it may be a bug in the version of bash fatten used. I'll look into it.

Out of interest, if you use the unfattened code straight from GitHub, what happens?

from bish-bosh.

raphaelcohn avatar raphaelcohn commented on August 29, 2024

Right, it's a bug ('feature') in bash - nested functions are exported with 'function ' as a prefix; externally scoped ones aren't.

from bish-bosh.

karlp avatar karlp commented on August 29, 2024

Do you still want me to try out the raw version? I don't have git or remote web access on that device, that's why I'd pulled the single script :)

from bish-bosh.

raphaelcohn avatar raphaelcohn commented on August 29, 2024

No - if you can wait a day or two I'll prepare a new prerelease. A bit of experimenting shows that pdksh doesn't have this fault. I'll examine the other ksh88 derivatives. The challenge is that forcing fatten to use pdksh is a bit anti-social to other users.

from bish-bosh.

karlp avatar karlp commented on August 29, 2024

No stress, was just waiting on other things so had a few minutes to try it out :)

from bish-bosh.

raphaelcohn avatar raphaelcohn commented on August 29, 2024

@karlp I've pushed a new prerelease which should fix your reported problem. Of course, there may be something else it masked.

Could you try https://github.com/raphaelcohn/bish-bosh/releases/tag/release_2015.0125.1408-2, please, and tell me how you get one?

from bish-bosh.

Plasmarobo avatar Plasmarobo commented on August 29, 2024

I've attempted using this release and gotten the following error message on OpenWrt (LEDE firmware):
./bish-bosh_2015.0629.0920-2_all: line 7121: syntax error: bad function name

I get a similar message with the old release you posted:
./bish-bosh_2015.0125.1408-1_all: line 6878: syntax error: bad function name

I'm running Lede leviathan VI r3716-cd0f990

:~# sh -x

BusyBox v1.26.2 () built-in shell (ash)

from bish-bosh.

Plasmarobo avatar Plasmarobo commented on August 29, 2024

Quick follow up: It's caused by the dependency check for source, removing the check entirely fixes that particular issue.

Still having some trouble running it; bad set syntax with: set +o emacs.
I'll do some more digging and see if I can get you some more info.

from bish-bosh.

I've updated my OpenWRT.
On 15.05.1 Chaos Calmer I get this sh -x output with your linked branch.

./bish-bosh_2015.0629.0920-2_all: line 2890: syntax error: bad substitution

I'm running BusyBox v1.23.2 (2016-01-02 05:45:02 CET) built-in shell (ash)

from bish-bosh.

Replacing some key ${} bash substitutions with $() style substitutions fixes a bunch, as well as removing the core_compatibility_installSource call and the function itself.

Then I get

bish-bosh: FAIL: The defaulted value for '--client-path' specifies a path '/tmp/lib/bish-bosh/client' which does not exist

from bish-bosh.

${} isn't bash syntax, but Posix shell syntax. That seems weird.

All I can say is BusyBox/ash doesn't like it.

I setup the paths which did away with the worries, but trying to run the example printed some warnings, then terminated the process without an error message. Definitely didn't respond to MQTT messages.

Hmmm. BusyBox ash has undergone a number of err, fixes recently, but things still seem to run fine on my Alpine Linux copy. That said, there does seem to be quite a bit variation. I need to get a copy of OpenWRT running in a VM somewhere as I don't currently have any hardware that uses it.
