Hi there,
sorry for the trouble. In addition to what you said, It looks like it has something to do with matplotlib 3.8 (matplotlib 3.7). If you use your suggestion, the error goes away but then the markers are not shown.
I was playing around with a few alternative solutions but couldn't get anything to work that would reproduce the old behavior. It's either an issue in 3.8 or they changed the way how listed colormaps are created. Until I have a better idea for how to fix it, I added a warning if someone runs the code with matplotlib > 3.7
