how about an avatar upload in the BenutzerDB?

In theory I think this is a good idea, but it requires quite some effort to implement properly for various reasons:

• BenutzerDB runs in our intranet, because it contains information on our members
• accessing it directly is possible, but not recommended due to cross domain requests
• accessing it from premium requires a working VPN connection, which we do have but only sometimes ;)
• the bandwidth is rather limited due to our DSL connection
• moving it to premium is not an option IMHO

What about trying to use a locally checked in version of a user's avatar, fallback otherwise?
