Did you run raveberry system-install after editing the .ini file?
If so, did you change the correct .ini file (the one raveberry system-install prompts you for)?
In the .ini file, you need to enable the hotspot module (hotspot = True) and provide a hotspot_password.

You can check the status of the hotspot on the Raspberry by running systemctl status hostapd.

Note that you need an additional Wifi-dongle, if you want to open up a hotspot and connect to another wifi at the same time. Without a dongle you can only connect to the internet with an ethernet cable after enabling the hotspot.

I have edited this file: sudo nano /home/pi/.local/lib/python3.7/site-packages/raveberry/config/raveberry.ini
github hotspot
and I have run raveberry system-install. But no hotspot appear.
so, I have run systemctl status hostapd and I get this:
github hotspot2
Thank for the info but currently, I want to test the hotspot function.

The second command tells you that hostapd exited with an error. What do the logs say?
Get them with journalctl -xeu hostapd (systemctl status hostapd should show them as well, but you cut its output).

If you show output of commands or file contents, please upload them instead of taking a screenshot. This makes it easier to read and better to search.

I have run you line : journalctl -xeu hostapd and I get this:

So I have searched the /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf but this file was not created.

raveberry avatar raveberry commented on June 8, 2024

This looks like the installation did not complete correctly. Were there any errors during the system install?

Raveberry does not use /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf. It should change /etc/default/hostapd to point to /etc/hostapd/hostapd_protected.conf or /etc/hostapd/hostapd_unprotected.conf.

Maybe you need to rerun the installation and check that it prints no errors during network configuration.

mageunic avatar mageunic commented on June 8, 2024

I have rerun installation but I have error with hostapd during installation :

Ok, so it's still the same error as before and the installation does not give any clues about what might have gone wrong.

What is the content of your /etc/default/hostapd?
Its only line not starting with a # should be:
DAEMON_CONF="/etc/hostapd/hostapd_protected.conf"

Do the both files /etc/hostapd/hostapd_protected.conf and /etc/hostapd/hostapd_unprotected.conf exist on your system? If so, you might solve the problem by using a fixed /etc/default/hostapd.

from raveberry.

mageunic avatar mageunic commented on June 8, 2024

i have this in /etc/default/hostapd:

#file can be found at /usr/share/doc/hostapd/examples/hostapd.conf.gz

#DAEMON_CONF=""

#Additional daemon options to be appended to hostapd command:-
#-d show more debug messages (-dd for even more)
#-K include key data in debug messages
#-t include timestamps in some debug messages

#Note that -B (daemon mode) and -P (pidfile) options are automatically
#configured by the init.d script and must not be added to DAEMON_OPTS.
#DAEMON_OPTS=""
^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@DAEMON_CONF="/etc/hostapd/hostapd_protected.conf"
DAEMON_CONF="/etc/hostapd/hostapd_unprotected.conf"

I have the both files /etc/hostapd/hostapd_protected.conf and /etc/hostapd/hostapd_unprotected.conf on my system.
After deleting ^@ in the line DAEMON_CONF="/etc/hostapd/hostapd_protected.conf" and DAEMON_CONF="/etc/hostapd/hostapd_unprotected.conf line.
I have restarted hostapd and hotspot works
Now i have another issue, how can I have access to the raveberry web page ? i try http://raveberry/ and http://192.168.4.1 (ip of wlan0 I get with ip a ) but it doesn't works.

from raveberry.

raveberry avatar raveberry commented on June 8, 2024

These ^@ are all null bytes. Maybe they ended up in there because the file was only written partially during the first install, but I don't know. Great that the hotspot is working now.

So now you are able to connect to the new wifi network, but you cannot access the web page?
Assuming the webserver is running correctly, try disabling your mobile data.
Sometimes phones use a different name resolution when connected to the cellular network and ignore the hotspot's configuration. After you connected once to the webserver it should even be possible to re-enable cellular again, but I'm not quite sure.

from raveberry.

mageunic avatar mageunic commented on June 8, 2024

I tried again with mobile data disable, my phone shows that the wifi has no internet connection and I tried to connect to Raveberry website with http://raveberry/ or http://192.168.4.1 but it doesn't work ( no internet access )

from raveberry.

raveberry avatar raveberry commented on June 8, 2024

http://192.168.4.1/ is the correct IP and if nothing else works, this usually does as a last resort.
The wifi will not have an internet connection if you do not forward the traffic to another interface (either over ethernet or another wifi). This option is called Tunneling in the settings. Connecting to the wifi should work regardless of that option however. I suggest you leave it disabled until you manage to access the web page. This message is not the cause of the problem.

Some questions to narrow down the problem:

  • Are you sure the webserver is running i.e. are you able to access it in a local session (with keyboard and monitor) at http://localhost/. Does systemctl status daphne say that it is running?
  • Which OS and which browser are you using? What is the exact error message the browser is showing?

from raveberry.

To connect with the hotspot to the web page, I use an android phone and google chrome apps.

error :

A few seconds later another page appears:

Maybe some things went wrong with the dns configuration during the install as well. What is the content of /etc/hosts.dnsmasq and /etc/dnsmasq.conf? /etc/dhcpcd.conf is interesting as well.
Also, what is the output of systemctl status dnsmasq?

However, these issues should not prevent you from visiting raveberry via its IP. Do you have another device (another phone or a laptop) that you can connect to the hotspot and try to visit the page with?
