1. This is not a repo for react, just for it's RoR helpers. What you posted is a react's issue, repo is here: https://github.com/facebook/react
2. You are setting state once at the beginning of components life, later you change props, but props.color is only assigned to state.color in getInitialState once, and it's not run later on the same component's instance. See why&how here: http://facebook.github.io/react/docs/component-specs.html
3. Please don't post any more issues on react here, just issues concerning react with Ruby on Rails. If you need more help post an issue on react's repo (link above) or better go to freenode's #reactjs channel
