Java virtual threads will not help Aeron. Aeron only uses one thread to send and one thread to receive network packets. All network interactions are non-blocking and this his how it achieves the best possible throughput at the lowest possible latency of any messaging system using the BSD sockets API. Aeron has additionally the option with premium extensions to use kernel bypass API such as ef_vi, VMA, and DPDK to get even better performance than what is possible with the BSD sockets API.
In summary, Java virtual threads are aimed at applications using many threads making blocking IO calls. If they were applied to Aeron it would reduce rather than improve performance.
