You can develop, run and debug your code without building whole renode.

I used this tutorial https://betrusted.io/xous-book/ch04-04-writing-cs-peripherals.html as an inspiration
and (just for fun) created PoC implementation of MOS6502 CPU (I wrapped https://github.com/aaronmell/6502Net cpu implementation in BaseCPU).

The workflow is not very convenient...

  • manually adding dlls to the project is a pain - I would love to see nuget package with renode api published with every renode release...
  • there is no enum for 8 and 16 bit in CpuBitness enum...

I also created custom plugin that allows loading assemblies (instead of single c# files), so i do something like this:

i @MyPlugin.cs
plugins enable "My Plugin"
loadAssembly @path/to/my/project/bin/Debug/MyAssemblyWithCpuAndOtherStuff.dll
...
create machine, use my custom CPU

You can then put breakpoints inside your code, attach debugger to running renode binary and it will work like a charm :).
