Just to add that an updated kernel shows the same issue.

Having said that, the build of efibootmgr, which relies on efivar,
completes and allows one to query the existing UEFI environment.

Still interested to hear of the reasons for the test failing, in case it's
something that needs to be rectified.

So, the reason we made "make test" not do that any more (quite some time ago) was that it'll fill up your hardware flash part, and in some cases that can cause firmware bugs that are pretty bad.

So just don't run that.
