The issue I see is that there was no download progress monitoring. The progress monitor was only picking up on the gzip inflate progress. I added download progress monitoring now, which should significantly decrease the amount of time the user is seeing nothing happening. Although this can still be improved, since until it gets to about 10% or so, it's hard to see the change. Also, a progress label as you suggested in gh-17 will be helpful.

I removed the gradient progress style. Now the display bar grows itself grows left to right to measure progress. I think at least this should make it clear to the user very soon after the page loads that the viewer is doing something. A progress label will still be helpful though.

Indeed the progress bar is more communicative now, but I agree that a label change would make it even more obvious that patience is required.
Thanks!

There is now an animated label displayed in the bottom bar. It will say "Loading..." or "Unpacking..." depending on whether it is downloading or inflating the gz file.
I also merged in your change. The "Drop files here" message should now not display when images are downloading or ever when in kiosk mode.

Nice! Even on slow connections one quickly gets the impression that something is going on.
Thanks!
