cornelius.scuttled.net/6697's IRCd and NickServ support client certificates for auth but not SASL PLAIN. Having either #398 fixed/implemented or client certs implemented would be nice, until then I just have to -R the channel every time the relay starts. Not critical, just something that'll be a mild annoyance every reboot during spam season.

@half-duplex Thanks for reporting this. To my knowledge, we should support SASL PLAIN authentication. This was something we missed in v1 and wanted to address in v2. But I know we do not support SASL EXTERNAL authentication. I am curious how essential it is for you to have SASL EXTERNAL authentication or if SASL PLAIN is sufficient for your needs.

Theoretically, if you are providing the TLS certificate on the filesystem, SASL EXTERNAL authentication could be supported easily with a new configuration option.
