FYI, I have one here: https://github.com/wch/dockr/tree/master/r-shiny-server
from rocker.
Someone already asked us over Twitter. @cboettig and I briefly discussed and there are two aspects:
- he and I can't spread ourselves too thinly, so not every potentially interesting container ought to be ours
- we're already in an org on GH and docker, so contributions are welcome (hint, hint).
So maybe @shabbychef wants to build this starting from the Dockerfile by @wch?
Lastly, we are also grateful for RStudio letting us distribute server. We don't want to stretch this too far but if "you guys" (so please check internally, @wch) are cool with it, we might.
It does fit the overall idea of Docker-izing quite well after all...

I'm pretty sure that there's no problem with redistributing the open source versions of Shiny Server and RStudio Server, though I can check. We've been talking about releasing a semi-official Shiny Server docker image, but it might be a few weeks before that happens.

Just for the record here, and as previously communicated by email, we did ask for and got written permission to distribute the RStudio binary.

Hi all, am in the same boat (not to stretch shipping metaphor too far) - wanting shiny app on Docker and was aiming to build one in the next week or so (unrealistic?), for a piece of research software. @shabbychef any luck with this? I'm new to Docker but have worked in R for 5 years and Shiny for about a year ; happy to contribute!
Also a bit confused - if @wch has already made a docker image for shiny (link above) what more needs to be done?
from rocker.
@shraddhapai: As noted above, @wch already has a Dockerfile for this.
Winston, I think we're happy for you to fork a copy into rocker-org Github
organization and add it to the rocker namespace on DockerHub if you're
interested (and have cleared the legal permission on redistributing the
binary in this way of course).

+1 -- just echoing what Carl said for some more oomph.

Great, thank you @wch, and @eddelbuettel @cboettig for doing all the work.
