So you want to define the dataType (json, xml, text)?

In my case it's simply a different JSON format that I dont have control over. Passing a custom reader allows me to change the format in a transparent way. But, it would also allow other dataTypes, as you mention, with out changing any other code--it would just be up the the developer to code a reader.

I will consider such a solution for the next release, but the current master branch is already a release canidate. Means only bug fixes and missing implementation will be added.

Definitely a +1 for @joenicora 's idea. It would make consuming data from sources much easier and stop the need to hack the code to make it work.

As of now there are to handler (requestHandler and responseHandler) to transform request and response objects. See documentation here.
